Overview
Employer-sponsored visas can be a valuable pathway for skilled workers to live and work in Australia with the sponsorship of an approved Australian employer. Subclass 482 — Skills in Demand visa
The Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) — formerly known as the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, which it replaced on 7 December 2024 — allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas to address genuine skill shortages. It comprises the Core Skills, Specialist Skills and Labour Agreement streams.
- Generally up to 4 years, depending on the stream and applicable arrangements; eligible Hong Kong passport holders may receive up to 5 years
- Work for the nominated employer in the nominated occupation
- May provide a pathway to a separate subclass 186 application, subject to eligibility
- Requires employer sponsorship and nomination
- No points test required
Subclass 186 — Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS)
The ENS visa is a permanent residence pathway for skilled workers nominated by an approved Australian employer, for those with the skills and experience to contribute to Australia on a permanent basis.
- Permanent residence on grant
- Direct Entry, Temporary Residence Transition and Labour Agreement streams available
- You must be nominated by an eligible Australian employer
- Occupation, skills and English language requirements apply
